Freestyle Motocross Stunt Riding comes to Sri Lanka


Sri Lanka is going to witness some of the best components and experts in the freestyle motocross daredevil (FMX) riding which is becoming popular world wide with many events of this nature being held around the world.

The daredevil riders known as the Red Bull X Fighters Jams is set to thrill the thousands that expected at the Galle Face Green on November 6 from 5 p.m. to 8.00 p.m.

Four fearless or popularly known as stunt drivers, two from Belgium and one each from South Africa and Czech Republic are ready to blaze the Galle Face Green with their daredevil riding.

The foursome Giles Dejong and Jimmy Verburgh of Belgium, Nick De Wit of South Africa and Martin Koren of Czech Republic are deemed regarded to be four of the world’s best exponents in this kind of event.

Red Bull has conducting similar FMX exhibition tour world wide and Sri Lanka will be the second country after Singapore in the Asian region that will be getting an opportunity of witnessing an event of this nature.

The organizing committee comprising of Elena Druchinina the Field Marketing Manager and Niranjala Rodrigo Business Manager both of Red Bull Sri Lanka are leaving no stone unturned to make this a success.

Niranjala Rodrigo stated that the four riders are due to arrive in Sri Lanka three days prior to the event and they will train the art of stunt riding to nearly 50 to 75 top riders from the Army and Military Police soon after their arrival.

Speaking further he said we are getting all the encouragement from the Sri Lanka government and the Defence Ministry. Speaking of the event he stated the freestyle motocross (FMX) exponents are coming after taking part in a series of Red Bull X Fighters Jams World tours.

South African Nick De Wit and Belgium’s Jimmy Verbugh are supposed to be the most experienced of the four having started their motocross racing career in the late 80’s and mid 90’s.

Belgium’s Giles was inspired by his friend Jimmy and is now rated as one of the talented FMX riders while Czech Republic’s Martin started his FMX career in 2003 and has taken part in over 100 FMX events including the FIM World ChampionshipThe organizers are expecting a crowd of over 50,000 for this first ever event and the roads leading to Galle Face Green will be closed on the day of the event.

Though the event will be an exhibition it’s an opportunity that should not be missed by the Sri Lankan public as there is no gate fee being charged as admission is free.
