Weighbridges to the road network system to prevent road damages
(Colombo-Lankapuvath) Measures will be taken to install weighbridges
to the road network in the country to prevent overloaded vehicles
causing damage to roads.
Accordingly with the instructions of the Port and Highways Ministry, Road Development Authority will fix three weighbridges at Ratmalana on the Galle road, Thannekumbura on the Mahiyanganaya road and Hatharaskotuwa on the Trincomalee road.
Heavy loaded vehicles can be identified by these weighbridges and thereby action could be taken by litigating the owners and drivers of those vehicles thus imposing fines on them.
The Transportation Ministry has issued a Gazette notification (1380/14) which indicates the maximum weight for each vehicle as per the number of axle in vehicles.According to the Ministry sources, strict action will be taken on loading vehicles exceeding the stipulated weight.
