Lankan couple, child die in road accident after driver falls asleep Lankan couple, child die in road accident after driver falls asleep

A Sri Lankan couple and their 8-year-old son died in a car accident following Friday prayers on the Madinah-Riyadh highway in Saudi Arabia.

Mohammed Masood, 44, his wife Saleema Rehmet, 42, and their son Mohammed Nasser died on the spot when their car turned over and hit a trailer at Anaqiyah, some 185 kilometers from Madinah, Saudi media reported.

The car was driven by Mohammed Razick, who works at a hotel in Al-Khobar. His wife Fathima Hafsa was also in the front seat of the car at the time of the accident. The eldest son of the deceased couple, Mohammed Yasser, 12, is currently being treated for injuries at King Fahd hospital in Madinah.

According to the police report, the driver of the ill-fated sedan fell asleep at the wheel, and the car strayed from the main road and turned upside down when a speeding vehicle hit the rear end of the car. Of the four people in the back seat of the vehicle, only Yasser survived with facial injuries.

According to Mohammed Ramzi, nephew of Razick, the three bodies have already been transferred to a government morgue in Madinah. Formalities for burial were being processed with the help of the Sri Lankan consulate in Jeddah and the local police. “If everything goes well, we may be able to have the funeral on Sunday,” Ramzi added.

Meanwhile, Naima Buhary, one of the three survivors of a car accident that occurred in Rabigh during the first week of Ramadan, died at King Fahd hospital in Jeddah on Friday.

Two people, both Sri Lankans, died, and three others were hurt in the road accident. The couple, Abdul Mohammed Buhari Muksith, 34, and his wife Sultan Mohammed Sithara, 32, were on their way to Rabigh from Jeddah. They were returning home after a suhoor meal.

According to a traffic police report, Muksith fell asleep at the wheel, which led to the car crashing into a trailer on the highway.

The couple died on the spot. Muksith’s father Mohammed Buhary, mother Naima Buhary, and the couple’s six-year-old nephew, who were in the back seat of the car, survived with injuries, reports Arab News.
